The cost of Girl Scout cookies is going up
A box of cookies will now cost you $5 up from $4.
The organization says the increase will offset the rising prices of Girl Scout cookie production and is the first hike in at least eight years. With the increase, the council's troops will now receive an average of 90 cents per box of cookies, up from an average of 62 cents per box.
The Girl Scouts leaders say that while a 25 percent hike might seem steep, it is actually smaller than overall cookie inflation. Since 2004, cookies prices have jumped 32 percent, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
