An 8-month pregnant woman spoke with News 12 about her COVID-19 experience from her hospital bed.
Kristen O'Dell, of Fort Montgomery, documented the journey on Facebook. The posts have gone viral.
"I have been diagnosed with pneumonia on my X-ray, and I’m on medications that are safe for me and the baby,” she says. “I'm a young, healthy medical provider and I’m struggling, and I don’t wish this on anybody."
The soon-to-be mother of three was working as a NICU nurse when she came down with the virus last month and spent four days on oxygen at New York Presbyterian Hudson Valley.
"I felt like it was important for people to see what was happening with me because I felt like so many were minimizing it,” she says. “My greatest fear was that I would end up on a ventilator and possibly end with pre-term labor and have to deliver my baby while under medications."
Those fears never realized, and her unborn son is OK.
"He stayed healthy, his heart rate was great, he moved, all the testing on me and him came back normal as far as the pregnancy went,” she says.
O'Dell is currently at home as she and her family wait for the arrival of the newest member of the family.
