Pre-schoolers plant tree to celebrate Arbor Day
Kids at one pre-school in Yonkers got a special treat today by taking a trip to a park to plant a tree in honor of Arbor Day.
Kids from Little Learners Program showed off their green thumbs by planting a tree at Coyne Park in Yonkers. One student explained how planting the tree was important so that everyone could see the flowers.
Arbor Day encourages people around the nation to plant new trees to help their community blossom.
"They couldn't wait to come out and the parents joined them as well. I think it's important to plant trees. So many trees get cut down for paper and products," says teacher Maureen Mastrocola. "It's good for the Earth, and oxygen, and shade for the park."
This is the 28th year that the Yonkers Parks Department has honored Arbor Day by planting trees around the city.
