The odds of winning are about 1 in 292 million. People have a better chance of being attacked by a shark, becoming president or being killed by a vending machine than to win the jackpot.
People in Nanuet were not discouraged by the odds as they flocked to the Corner News and Deli.
The owners say they love the numbers when it comes to how many people are buying tickets at their store. They say one man bought 400 tickets.
Eric Magaram, chair of the math department at Rockland Community College, says you would need to buy hundreds of thousands of tickets to give yourself a realistic chance.
