Nearly a week after the Co-op City Power Plant confirmed a noose was found inside the building, the plant?s management met with local leaders to discuss the alleged hate crime.

Residents of Co-op City expressed fear and outrage after the alleged hate crime took place on Oct. 27. The plant?s management says the noose was found hanging from a ceiling.

Management met with local union leaders and the borough?s district attorney to discuss a course of action. Residents say they hope the issue is dealt with immediately.

?I think the community needs a little cleaning up,? Patrick Elvin, a local resident, says. ?It?s getting violent over here.?

A meeting held Nov. 5 in Co-op City gave residents a chance to speak out about their worries and to talk about the city?s plan of action.

?We want to send a message to people that we're not going to tolerate this!? Elaine Cole, of Co-op City, says. ?We are going to investigate it, and we want to know what management is going to do about it.?

According to community members, they will continue to work with the district attorney?s office in this investigation. They have also sent a letter to the police commissioner, but have yet to hear a response.
