A portable heater is being blamed for a fire that killed several dogs Tuesday night in Poughkeepsie.
It comes days after a portable heater caused a deadly fire in the Bronx.
Arlington fire investigators say the same piece of equipment started a fire Tuesday night at a home's detached garage on Lewis Avenue
Six pit bulls, including puppies, died inside.
Three dogs survived and are now with the Dutchess County SPCA, which says it will be investigating the animals' living conditions.
News 12 tried to speak to the homeowner, but they declined questions.
Arlington fire officials are offering tips when using a portable heater now that temperatures are dropping.
"In fire prevention, if we can prevent that fire from happening, that's the best safety message we can provide to people," says George Finn.
Finn suggests remembering APP:
Make sure the equipment is approved by the certified safety company Ul Labs.
Plug it directly into the wall outlet.
Place it at least 3 feet away from other objects.
