The village of Port Chester has raised parking costs and fines.

The village is cracking down on delinquent meter feeders. For violations like expired meters and cars too far away from the curb, the fine is $10 to $15 more.

The village say it gets a lot of complaints about parking, which impacts quality-of-life issues. Officials say the increased fine gives drivers more incentive to comply.

Higher meter prices are also in effect.  Parking costs about 25 cents for 15 minutes, but some people say they shouldn't have to pay for it at all.

"We pay our taxes and we are fine with that. Paying for parking is a revenue generator, and they could find a different way to raise it,” says Jane Bailey, of White Plains.

But residents like Joan Raistlis, of Tarrytown, aren’t bothered by the changes.

"I don't think it's a horrible thing,” she says. “You have to put it in. You are going to buy $12 worth of lunch, you can't put 50 cents in the meter?”

Officials say they could raise an additional $500,000 in annual revenue with the new regulations.
