The popular New Rochelle haunted house was suddenly canceled Friday night, despite plans to open for the Halloween season.
The spooky attraction is the largest fundraiser for the city?s Chamber of Commerce and has traditionally been held at the armory. This year, the armory was unavailable due to current development, which led the chamber to erect the haunted house in a building on Lecount Place.
Preparations started in August for the well-loved attraction, but the chamber shut it down before opening because the building did not have a sprinkler system, which violated state safety requirements.
Many young people gathered outside Friday night hopeful for a scare, but left disappointed.
The chamber has promised to make next year?s haunted maze ?bigger and better.?
