Senator Nick Spano (R-Yonkers) was in Yonkers Saturday to announce his re-election campaign, kicking off a highly anticipated rematch against Democratic Legislator Andrea Stewart-Cousins.
Spano told people at the Polish Community Center that he has spent the last 20 years in the state Senate and he had time to reflect on his narrow victory the last time out. Spano beat out Stewart-Cousins in 2004 by only 18 votes. That race resulted in the longest recount in New York state history.
Stewart-Cousins already threw her hat into the ring and was busy at the Yonkers Community Action Headquarters speaking to her supporters. She told the crowd the last election made it clear that people want a change in Albany.
