Rockland police are stepping up safety measures as residents get ready to observe Easter and Passover.
"Our department enhances our policing during the High Holy Days," says Ramapo Police Capt. Brad Weidel. "Some of the things we do in particular is pay attention to increased pedestrian activity, which occurs especially during the holiest parts of the week."
In the last two years, Ramapo police say they have responded to 112 pedestrian accidents. Three of those were fatalities.
With more walkers expected Friday through Sunday, Ramapo police say their focus will be on foot.
Residents say they welcome the idea of added police presence.
