Police arrested a security guard in connection with a small fire at the Jefferson Valley Mall in Yorktown.
The fire was discovered at around 8:30 a.m. Thursday in a hallway. The fire was contained to some trash bags, but produced a lot of smoke, causing an evacuation. Fire officials deemed the fire suspicious.
Police have charged 21-year-old Marvin Hernandez, of Putnam Valley, with second-degree arson. Hernandez was working for Control Incorporated, a company hired by the mall to provide security. He is being held in the Westchester County Jail without bail.
