Police release new surveillance video of statue vandal
Yonkers police are hoping new surveillance video will help them capture a man who has been vandalizing area religious shrines.
Detectives say the video shows a man approaching a home with cans of paint in a bag. Investigators feel the man may be responsible for spray painting a dozen Virgin Mary statues with black paint.
So far, police say seven incidents were reported on Saturday, two on Sunday and three on Monday. In most of the cases, statues of the Virgin Mary were the vandal's target. Police say the vandal has hit homes and churches mainly in west Yonkers around Park Avenue, North Broadway and Hudson Street.
Cops believe the same person or group of people is responsible in all the incidents. A $1,000 reward being offered for information leading to an arrest.
To watch more about efforts by the Yonkers Police Department to catch the person responsible for defacing numerous statues of the Virgin Mary, go to channel 612 on your iO digital cable box and select iO Extra.
