Police are investigating the death of a little girl who was injured in Harrison and passed away in a Valhalla hospital over the weekend.
Authorities are calling the circumstances of the 1-year-old girl?s death suspicious, despite the fact that the child had been diagnosed with sickle cell anemia - an inherited disorder in which red blood cells are abnormally shaped.
Investigators say, however, it is possible the illness was not what killed the Yonkers girl, who was pronounced dead at the Maria Fareri Children's Hospital in Valhalla.
?We're still trying to get the facts,? says Yonkers Police Commissioner Edmund Hartnett. ?There are meetings being held today to determine what happened, where it happened and what the exact cause of death is.?
An autopsy is being conducted to determine the exact cause of the toddler?s death.
