Police probe strange Bronx death of Peekskill man
A Peekskill man died in the Bronx Thursday afternoon during an encounter with police that has left more questions than answers.
According to police, officers responded to a dispute at an apartment Thursday afternoon where 29-year-old Andre Wellington, of Peekskill, was renting a room. Officers say when they arrived, Wellington fled on foot.
Officers later found him in the area of 217th Street, dead with a gunshot wound to the head. Police believe he may have taken his own life.
Police found two guns on Wellington, a .44-caliber and a 9mm.
No shots were fired by police during the incident, according to investigators. The medical examiner is trying to determine if the gunshot wound was self-inflicted.
