Police probe possible abuse at school for autistic kids
New Castle police confirm an investigation is under way into possible sexual abuse of an autistic child at a Millwood school for special needs children.
The incident allegedly happened on Monday at the Devereux Millwood Learning Center, which provides educational and behavioral services for children with autism. A 13-year-old autistic boy soiled his pants and was changed by an employee.
The adult sister of the boy told News 12 Westchester that the male employee who changed her brother took cell phone pictures of the boy in his underwear. According to the woman, who does not want to be identified, the worker was fired for that alleged incident, but only after the pictures were deleted from his phone.
The woman also claims the boy was found with bruising in his groin area, so family members are concerned he may have been molested. The boy was examined at a hospital and appears to be alright physically, except for the bruising.
The woman says that the family is upset with the way the center handled the incident, including the fact that the pictures were deleted from the worker's cell phone. Officials at the center would only say they are cooperating with authorities in the investigation.
