Police partake in student summer reading program
Some Yonkers police officers are helping students learn during the summer break.
The officers are taking part in the summer reading program for children at the Yonkers Riverfront Library.
Law enforcement officials say using books can help build positive relationships between police and the community they serve.
"It's also a great way for our police officers to introduce themselves to the children at a young age and let them understand that we're here to help them," says Yonkers PBA President Keith Olson.
The six-week program is in its 10th year, and sponsored by Westchester Community Partners.
