Orange County police say they are searching for a driver who took off during an attempted traffic stop and caused a car crash that hospitalized an officer Tuesday night.
Officials say Officer James Tremper was attempting to pull over a car at Timber Trail and Ridge Road in Highland Mills when he veered off of the road, just before 10 p.m.
Authorities say Tremper was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center, where he had surgery for serious injuries to his right leg and remains hospitalized.
Police are searching for the driver Tremper was reportedly trying to pull over.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Woodbury police.
Tremper has been an officer since March.
He is a combat Army veteran and worked briefly for Cornwall police.
