A man was fatally stabbed in Mount Vernon Saturday and police are still looking for the suspect.
Police confirmed Jermial Rose was stabbed in the neck on Eighth Avenue around 5:30 p.m.
The 38-year-old was taken to the hospital, where he died.
Mayor Richard Thomas expressed his condolences, saying an attack on one person in the Mount Vernon community is an attack on all people in Mount Vernon.
"Our tightknit community rejects this targeted, vicious attack and will tirelessly work together with the Mount Vernon Police Department to swiftly deliver tough justice to those responsible," Thomas said in a statement.
Community activist and leader of Save Mount Vernon, Jesse Van Lew, says killings are becoming far to frequent and they need to be stopped.
Van Lew says the only way to stop the violence in Mount Vernon is for the community, police and elected officials to work together.
Anyone with information on this attack is asked to call police.
