A 58-year-old man had died after he was pinned by a piece of heavy equipment at a Jackson Township auto body shop.
Police say that the victim, identified as Kenneth Mann, called 911 to say that he was pinned by the heavy object at Claytons and Sons Garage located on East Veterans Highway. Police say that the dispatcher tried to keep Mann on the phone, but that they eventually lost contact.
When first responders arrived at the garage, police say that they were not able to fine Mann right away. Police say that members of the fire department eventually found Mann pinned under the equipment near a tree line at the end of the property.
Mann was taken to the hospital but did not survive his injuries.
Police say that it appears that Mann was trying to take apart a piece of the equipment that was needed elsewhere when it collapsed and pinned him to the ground.
The Ocean County Sheriff’s Department and OSHA are investigating.
