Police have identified the mother of a baby abandoned on the doorstep of a Jefferson Valley home.
Police say the infant boy was only a few hours old when he was found in a bassinet enclosed in a garbage bag Saturday night. Despite the freezing temperatures that night, the baby is listed in stable condition at Hudson Valley Hospital Center. Police say the mother is currently seeking medical attention.
In New York State, Safe Haven laws allow a parent to anonymously surrender a newborn up to 5 days old to a firehouse, police station or hospital without facing criminal charges.
