State police released the names Monday of three New Jersey women who died Saturday in a horrific van crash on the New York State Thruway.
The victims are 34-year-old Juana Rodriguez-Hernandez, of Englewood, Georgina Casdaneda, 26, and Maria Tay-Tuyuc, 20, both of North Bergen.
Eleven other women in the van were injured.
"This is probably as bad as it gets. This is pretty bad," says EMT Peter Gioia. "For me it was my worst - my worst incident, no question about it." Gioia captured images of the mangled wreck on his cell phone.
Police say the van veered off I-87 south before 5 a.m. Saturday, hitting a grassy median before striking a concrete pillar head-on. Authorities believe driver error and fatigue may have played a role in the wreck.
It's still unknown where the women, who were dressed in party attire, were coming from or headed to.
