Police ID victim in Vails Gate grocery store stabbing
Police say they have identified the man who was stabbed in a grocery store this past Saturday.
Michael Kohus, 35, of Highland Falls, collapsed and bled in the middle of the produce aisle after being stabbed in the neck at the Vails Gate Shoprite on Route 32. Authorities say the victim was rushed to the hospital but later died.
Police say the attacker, 35-year-old Andrew Goodenough, of New Windsor, stabbed Kohus for no apparent reason and tried to blend in with shoppers. Officials had Goodenough's description and caught him on the way out of the store.
Shoprite immediately shut down after the incident and is offering counseling to staff. A spokesperson from the grocery store issued their condolences to the victim's family.
