Police saved one man in Valhalla from a heroin overdose, while another suspected overdose victim was found dead in his car at a White Plains gas station.
The two overdoses occurred in the span of six hours Thursday.
Mount Vernon police responded to a Valhalla home at around 2:30 p.m. Thursday after a resident was found blue in the face by a friend. The responding officer administered Narcan to the victim, which reverses the effects of an opiate overdose within 10 seconds.
Hours later, a 22-year-old man was found dead in his car in the parking lot of a gas station on North Broadway. Police suspect he died of a heroin overdose.
Meanwhile, a law enforcement task force made up of local officers, county police and the FBI pulled off a major bust on Tuesday. They arrested 21 suspected heroin dealers, 15 of them facing federal charges. They also seized about $1 million worth of drugs, including heroin traced to recent overdose deaths in Montrose and Buchanan.
The task force says they have arrested 125 suspected dealers over the past year as part of a crackdown.
