Police: Haverstraw driver had BAC twice legal limit

They say the 33-year-old driver told officers he swerved to avoid a deer in the roadway and lost control causing the crash.

A Haverstraw man is facing DWI charges after an overnight crash.
Police say the accident happened around 3:30 a.m. today on Haverstraw Road.
They say the 33-year-old driver told officers he swerved to avoid a deer in the roadway and lost control causing the crash.
But officers smelled alcohol and did a sobriety test. He was arrested and transported back to the station where they say his BAC was more than twice the legal limit.
The Haverstraw man was charged with aggravated DWI and other various traffic infractions.
