Nine months after a Yonkers mother was found murdered in a Westchester County park, police are looking at the victim?s husband as the prime suspect.
Leticia Garcia Benito was found shot to death at Tibbetts Brook Park in May 2005 after a Cinco de Mayo celebration. Benito?s husband, Freddie Galarza, was questioned by police and reportedly failed a lie detector test. Galarza also told police he left the park before the slaying, however, police say surveillance tapes show him leaving after the incident. A week after Benito?s funeral, Galarza took their 2-year-old daughter and fled for his native Mexico.
Authorities say they do not have enough evidence to charge Galarza since no murder weapon was found and no witnesses have come forward. Anyone with information on the homicide is asked to contact the county police at 914-864-7788.
