Police: Craigslist post leads to Yonkers tire thief
Police in Yonkers say they were able to nab a tire thief with the help of Craigslist.
Police say Benny Burgos stole tires from a Honda CRV that was parked in a lot on Riverdale Avenue. Police say they had created a task force to help crack down on the problem.
Officers on the task force spotted an ad on Craigslist that was offering tires. Police responded to the ad and set up a time to meet with Burgos.
Police say they found Burgos in possession of all four tires from the CRV.
The Yonkers police commissioner says the task force has helped reduce thefts by 30 percent since the fall. The commissioner advises online buyers to stay away from deals that seem just too good to be true. He says it should raise a red flag if someone is selling $4,000 worth of tires and rims for $700.
Police say Burgos is responsible for several other robberies that are under investigation.
