Police: County inmates suffer apparent drug overdoses
Westchester County police say multiple inmates were found unresponsive Sunday afternoon, suffering from what appear to be drug overdoses.
They say the six inmates were together in the same cell block at the Westchester County Jail in Valhalla.
Sources tell News 12 the inmates overdosed on synthetic marijuana, often marketed as K2 or Spice, although authorities have not confirmed the information.
Two inmates were taken to Westchester Medical Center and the others were taken to White Plains Hospital. County police say they are all in stable condition.
Police are working to determine how the illicit substance got inside the jail.
Westchester County Jail holds about 1,600 inmates, many of whom are awaiting trial.
