Police say a Brooklyn man was arrested Sunday in connection to the robbery of a North Bellmore Rite Aid and for leading officers on a chase.
Prosecutors say 18-year-old Arjumand Evans tried to walk out of the Rite Aid with $16 worth of cereal, milk and other items without paying.
According to police, a cashier was slightly injured from a fight when she tried to stop him.
Police say Evans drove away in a white Volkswagen that was later found to be stolen.
When police spotted the car, they tried to pull it over but Evans sped away. They say he hit another car, a utility pole, fire hydrant and an auto repair shop in Freeport.
When police arrested Evans after a short foot pursuit, they say he gave a false name, had four stolen IDs on him and some marijuana.
In court Monday, prosecutors said Evans failed to appear five different times on five separate cases in the past. Because of that, the judge held him in lieu of a half-million dollars bond, or $250,000 cash.
Evans is due back in court Wednesday.
