Police arrest suspect in Hastings robbery
One of five suspects accused of robbing the home of a restaurant owner in Hastings was taken into custody Monday night, police say.
Police are questioning Francisco Cordero, of Yonkers, about his alleged involvement in the Monday home invasion.
According to authorities, Cordero and his four accomplices followed restaurateur Charlie DiPaolo from his popular Bronx eatery to his Donald Drive home at about 11 p.m. Police say the man was met by his wife in their driveway when the suspects forced the two inside. The robbers allegedly tied up the couple and beat the husband with a gun.
Police say DiPaolo's 17-year-old son hid in a closet and secretly called 911 before being tied up by the burglars. Officers who responded to the call say they were able to arrest Cordero. The four other men fled into the nearby woods and got away, police say.
Authorities say they were able to recover a handgun and items stolen from the safe. The family was not seriously injured.
