Police arrest 18 in underage booze bash
Police arrested 18 underage drinkers Friday night when they received an anonymous tip about a party.
Authorities say parents were not home when the booze bash took place at a house on Ecker Street. They say they caught wind of the party when an anonymous neighbor called around 10 p.m. to complain about the noise.
Police say underage drinking is a growing problem for the area. ?This type of behavior is unacceptable and most importantly dangerous to the kids and to the community at large,? Sgt. Michael Buck of the Irvington Police Department says.
Buck says when the police arrived at the party, parents were notified and responded to the scene. He says all the kids were released to their parents or a responsible guardian.
Police say they plan to continue to crack down on the problem in the future. The Greenburgh Drug and Alcohol task Force is currently looking into where and how underage kids obtain the booze.
The owner of the home where the party took place was unwilling to speak with News 12 Westchester.
All the teens who were arrested are now facing fines and community service. They are due in village court on March 17.
