Police: 3-year-old found dead in Melrose
The NYPD is investigating the death of a 3-year-old boy found at his Melrose home.
Police say the boy, identified as Poseidon Quinones, was discovered at around 2 a.m. Saturday inside 317 East 163rd St. They say they found him unconscious and unresponsive, with apparent trauma to his body and visible bruising.
Quinones was taken to Lincoln Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police say the boy was in the care of his paternal grandmother at the time of his death. They say he had been in her care since October due to a family history with Child Services.
The boy's mother, Ashley Ramirez, says she is devastated at the loss of her son, and says she still doesn't know exactly what lead to his death."The other day his father texted me a picture of my son and he had a black eye," the mother told News 12 The Bronx. "He never had a black eye or bruises on his body, or anything. So I don't know. I just want my baby back."
The medical examiner is working to determine the exact cause of Quinones' death.
