Police in Camden County say that three people were hurt when a car crashed into a Target store in Cherry Hill.
Police say that the 76-year-old driver of the car suffered a medical emergency and crashed into the building around 10 a.m. on Thursday. The car went through the building into an employee-only area just behind the store’s Starbucks.
“From the initial investigation and witness statements, we are confident that an unknown medical episode of the driver while traveling south here in the parking lot led him to accelerate into the front of the Target store,” says Cherry Hill Police Lt. John Ostermueller.
Ostermueller says that the driver, his 58-year-old wife and a Target employee were injured. They were taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
The Target store was shut down for a few hours while crews checked on the structural damage to the building.
Officials say they were thankful that things weren’t worse.
“It is a busy foot traffic area. We’re fortunate no one was hit in the parking lot and we’re fortunate at the time the store was relatively unoccupied,” Ostermueller says.
