Police: 3 boys targeted in attempted abduction at Lake Welch Beach in Harriman State Park
Police say three boys were targeted in an attempted abduction at a Rockland park Sunday evening.
The incident happened at Lake Welch Beach in Harriman State Park.
New York State Park Police tell News 12 that three boys ages 6, 7 and 8, were playing basketball at parking field No. 2 at around 7 p.m. when they were approached by three adult men. The men spoke with the boys and even played basketball with them.
Detective Sgt. Steven Huff of the New York State Park Police says they asked to the boys to go home with them. He says one boy was in the minivan.
Huff says the grandmother of the boys spotted what was going on and yelled at them to jump from the van. That's when the three men sped off.
Witnesses say the suspects drove up to the boys in a 2001 red Chrysler or Dodge minivan with old white and blue New York plates.
Alerts have been sent out to all law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for the van and the men.
Anyone with information about the attempted abduction is urged to call New York State Park Police at 845-786-2781.
