Police say a 2-year-old boy was injured after falling from a second-story window in Valley Stream Sunday night.
The incident happened just before 11 p.m. on Ivanhoe Place.
Investigators say the child climbed in the stairwell of his home, and a short time later, fell two stories from the window.
News 12 is told he landed on the cement driveway below.
The family says they were having an evening meal during their Ramadan observances when the child, Zuhayr Qureshi, climbed through the window.
“It literally happened like a spur of the moment,” says the boy’s uncle Moheeb Ahmed. “You know, we're always keeping an eye on him. We know he's very active.”
Police say the boy was rushed to Cohen Children's Medical Center in New Hyde Park with head trauma and is listed in serious condition.
Neighbors say they didn't hear anything unusual on the block last night but were stunned to learn what happened to the little boy.
Abdul Saleemi knows little Zuhayr and says he has a 2-year-old niece himself. He says he's now considering adding window guards in his home to keep kids safe.
