Residents in the hamlet of Pocantico Hills are outraged over plans to tear down a historic stone cottage built by the Rockefeller family.

Residents erected signs that read #save43 at the site of a historic stone cottage on Willard Avenue in protest of the plan. The house is one of six stone cottages developed in the early 20th century by the Rockefellers.

The home is vacant after selling for $777,000 in 2016. The owners are seeking a permit to demolish the cottage from the Town of Mount Pleasant.

Some residents say the cluster of homes has historical importance to the hamlet and should be preserved. They have filed an application to include the six cottages on the National Register of Historic Places.

News 12 reached out to the owners of the home but has not heard back.
