A Pleasantville mother is accusing her ex-husband of indoctrinating their 11-year-old son with a radical extremist form of Islam.
Nabila Albarghouthy made the claims Wednesday at her lawyer's Manhattan office, recounting how her once happy, healthy and engaged son has changed at the hands of her ex-husband.
Albarghouthy filed a petition seeking sole custody of her son. She says her son got into an argument with other kids at Pleasantville Middle School last year over whose God is better. The 11-year-old allegedly said he would die for his God.
The ex-husband, Isam Albarghouthy, said through a statement released by his lawyer that the allegations made against him by his ex-wife are outrageous and false.
"She is obviously hoping to use these false allegations both to defend against the charges that Isam made against her in his custody battle petition and to gain leverage in her own motion for change of custody,” said the lawyer.
The couple divorced in 2013. They also have two daughters.
