Pile-driving resumes at new TZB
Construction work on the new Tappan Zee Bridge has resumed, and some people say the pile-driving is already creating too much noise.
Work on the new span was largely shut down during the winter months, but as the temperature increases, so does the construction noise. "Yeah, that pile driving not going on at the moment because trust me if it was, you would know it," says South Nyack Mayor Bonnie Christian.
Christian says residents aren't being given enough notice before it starts up. "With a 48-hour notice it gives me time to get it up on our website and get it out to the residents to be prepared."
Construction noise is also supposed to be kept to quieter than 90 decibels, and noise monitors are supposed to be 50 feet from the bridge.
Christian says she has asked for the current monitors to be placed closer to the work site. She's yet to hear back from bridge officials on whether they plan to move that noise monitor closer to the bridge.
