The Village of Piermont says it is preparing for heavy flooding and warning residents to plan for the worst.

Heavy rain, strong winds and high tides could put some parts of Piermont under water. Up to 3 inches of rain is expected in the Hudson Valley.

Officials are worried that during high tide Friday morning, the village could look like it did back in March - when a nor’easter flooded homes, took down trees and turned parking lots into pools.  

On the pier, crashing waves destroyed the boardwalk. The village has since rebuilt it, but officials are concerned it could be destroyed again during the storm.

Piermont Mayor Bruce Tucker advised residents to move their cars and make sure they are not in the floodplain.

In preparation for heavy rain, the village was giving away free sandbags. It also set up a "neighbor to neighbor" network.

"Where in different neighborhoods, somebody takes control and in the event of a bad storm - they will go check on other neighbors,” says Tucker.

Village officials say they expect the worst conditions of the storm to hit around 8 a.m. or 9 a.m. Friday.
