Pfizer, the pharmaceutical giant with a research and development center in Pearl River, is looking to roll out a coronavirus vaccine on high-risk groups in the fall -- and expand it to a larger population sometime in 2021.

Vice President Phil Dormitzer says right now, clinical trials are underway, with four different potential vaccines.

Last month, trials began in Europe with about 200 people. This month in the U.S., about 360 people were part of the trial. All participants were between 18 and 55 years old and had a clean bill of health.

Once they received their dose, they are not inundated or purposely exposed to the virus - they are encouraged to do the opposite.

It will take some time before Pfizer can find a secure option, due to so many variables.

Dormitzer says that although they are working quickly, they are working extremely carefully and not skipping anything along the way.

Currently, U.S. trials are taking place at NYU's Grossman School of Medicine and University of Maryland's School of Medicine.
