(AP) -- A New York animal-welfare group is closing its Westchester County shelter and will consolidate operations in Middletown.
Pets Alive announced Saturday that it will close its Westchester shelter in Elmsford, New York.
Officials with the group say rising repair and maintenance costs coupled with declining revenue led to the decision.
Pets Alive Westchester was closed from mid-March through July in 2014 due to cracks in the building's structure.
The group spent much of the last year exploring options to permanently repair the building.
But Erin Guilshan, executive director of Pets Alive Westchester, says there are structural problems that cannot be fixed.
The facility will stay open for several more months so that homes can be found for the animals already in the building.
