PETA descends on White Plains Burberry
An animal activist group protested the use of real fur to make clothing by stripping down to their underwear and spray-painting their bodies Wednesday morning.
PETA, or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, is trying to send a message to the British clothing store Burberry to stop using real animal fur for their fashions. According to PETA, the store?s continued use of real animal fur is making its name synonymous with cruelty to animals.
"PETA's met with Burberry executives in the past. We've shown them video footage of how animals are bludgeoned to death, electrocuted, sometimes even skinned alive for their fur,? PETA member Matt Rice said. ?Despite knowing all this, Burberry continues to use fur in its designs.?
PETA often uses eye-catching demonstrations to get the attention they believe animals deserve, said Rice. Their latest demonstration took place outside a Burberry at the Westchester Mall, where PETA volunteers painted their nearly naked bodies with Burberry?s signature plaid pattern, complete with spatters of fake blood.
They held signs reading ?when plaid goes bad,? and asked shoppers to boycott Burberry until the store stops selling real fur.
