A Pelham Manor Exxon station lost thousands of dollars over the weekend after someone tampered with its pumps.
Five pumps didn't register nearly 1,300 gallons of super-grade gasoline before the problem was noticed. The thefts were brought to light after workers noticed the amount of gas in the pumps did not match the amount sold.
Police are checking surveillance video to find out how the act was pulled off. Authorities don't know if the pumps were siphoned off or if another method was used to rip the station off.
Repairing the pumps will cost about $2,000, but the station's manager says those losses won't be charged back to consumers.
