Pelham Manor board discusses fate of police chief
The Pelham Manor Village Board met in executive session Monday night to privately discuss the fate of their longtime police chief, Al Mosiello.
Mosiello was supposed to begin his retirement March 1. He stepped down after confessing in January to forwarding racially insensitive jokes to his colleagues via email. Despite the promise to retire, Mosiello remains on the department's payroll.
The Pelham Manor board of trustees approved a new police commissioners board Monday night in response to the controversy. It will oversee the hiring of a new police chief and boost efforts to diversify the currently all-white department.
It is currently unclear as to when the board of trustees will finish their negotiations on the terms of Mosiello's retirement. A replacement is expected to be voted on next Tuesday.
