Peekskill will welcome over 80 families to live in its newest affordable apartment building as early as next year.
One-bedroom units will be as low as $900.
"It's catered towards the workforce, it's catered towards those who live here, who work here, who do things in our community so I'm looking forward to this project,” says Peekskill Mayor Andre Rainey.
Wilder Balter Partners, who owns what is now a wooded area at 654 Main St., plans to have over 80 units built - ranging from one to three bedrooms - some of which will be suitable for people earning 40 to 60 percent of the median income.
Peekskill resident George Ondek tells News 12 that it will bring more foot traffic toward the beautiful river. Another pro about the building is that it's only a half-mile from the train station, making it easy for people without cars to travel.
Because of the location of the project, Wilder Balter Partners can be approved for a grant of up to $1.5 million in capital improvement for the one and only youth center in Peekskill, which is another reason Mayor Rainey says this is great for his constituents.
