Peekskill residents protest Sandra Bland death
Peekskill residents held a rally on Main Street Friday in memory of the woman found dead in her Texas jail cell this week.
Sandra Bland's death was ruled a suicide after an autopsy, but protesters say she did not take her own life.
Dozens gathered to protest the police-related deaths of black people.
Bland, who was black, was arrested after arguing with a police officer during a traffic stop for allegedly changing lanes without using her turn signal.
A bystander recorded video of at least some of Texas state trooper Brian Encinia's interaction with Bland.
Three days later, she was found dead in her jail cell. The Walker County Sheriff's Department says the hanging was a suicide, but Bland's family and civil rights advocates deny that report.
Officer Encinia has been placed on administrative duty as the investigation continues.
