Incumbent Peekskill Mayor Frank Catalina received a big boost in support this week from the city's police force as he seeks to fend off Democratic challenger Ken Martin.
Catalina announced on Thursday that he accepted the endorsement of the Peekskill Police Association. It follows a string of recent endorsements for the Republican, including the backing of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
Opponent Ken Martin appeared unfazed by the news. "When I get elected, I'll be able to work with the police just fine," he said.
Martin, who teaches American history at a West Harlem high school, is making the improvement of Peekskill schools a priority of his campaign.
Election Day is Nov. 3.
