The Peekskill School District kicked off the new school year with a tailgating party for incoming freshman students.
The district, along with Peekskill Police Department, provided food and entertainment.
A goal of the party was to help to improve relations between police and students.
"We want to meet with the kids, and meet them on a different level," says Peekskill Police Chief Eric Johansen. "Just introduce ourselves and build a real solid foundation of relationship."
About 230 freshman and their parents were expected to attend.
