Peekskill held its annual Fourth of July parade Tuesday despite doubt swirling around the event's future.
Dwindling attendance and fewer participants over the years led organizers to consider changing the event, including the possibility of shortening the 2-mile parade route. Many in Peekskill say the celebration, while still fun, has started to lose some of its luster.
But those who lined South Street to wave American flags, applaud and cheer at the yearly show of patriotism said they were glad this year's parade stepped off without a hitch.
Peekskill Mayor Frank Catalina says the parade will continue to be an annual event, even if he has to pay for it out of his own pocket.
