The Peekskill community held a gun buyback program in the hopes of getting weapons off the streets.
The event allowed people to bring in any type of firearm, no ID required. A total of $10,450 in gift cards were given to those who turned in their weapons.
"With less guns available on the street, whether they're legal or illegal, the less opportunity for them to be used in a crime,” said Lt. Adam Renwick of the Peekskill Police Department.
Overall, 40 handguns, 10 shotguns and 16 rifles were brought in during the event.
