A New York state parole officer allegedly struck a pedestrian with a car in Newburgh.

Authorities say the victim was found unconscious at the corner of Ann and South Johnson streets. Firefighters stationed nearby say they saw the victim go airborne. The incident prompted rescuers to respond and provide emergency care within seconds.

Officials say the driver, a state parole officer, somehow hit the man around 7:30 a.m. Friday. The victim is yet to be identified.

Authorities have not said if the parole officer was on duty at the time. It's unclear whether the driver remained at the scene, but no charges have been filed.

The victim is expected to be OK.

A representative for the state Division of Parole said the incident is under investigation but made no further no comment.
